What is Ako ransomware?

Ako is a new cryptovirus, that is able to make all the personal files on your PC unreadable. We should also notice, that Ako ransomware can delete recent backups, shadow volume copies, and disable the System Recovery tool that definitely complicates decryption capability. The only difficult thing for any ransomware threat is to crawl into the system, especially with a proper anti-virus. It was observed that it mostly spreads via spam emails containing password-protected agreement.zip attachment. Inside of .zip archive is agreement.scr file opening which you infect your computer.

The sample of infected email:

Subject: Agreement 2020 #1775505
Good afternoon
Here is an agreement for you, as you requested. Check and write if something is wrong.
archive password: 2020

If Ako somehow managed to sneak into the victim’s system, it will immediately run the encryption procedure to lock victim’s sensitive and vulnerable files (documents of any type, images, videos). All infected files will be marked with random extension (.m9V742, .2mzWmb, .Ci3Qn3, .TSmeph, etc.). For example, photo.png file turns into photo.png.Ci3Qn3 file.

remove Ako files

Once enciphering procedures are finished and the data on your computer is encrypted, the ransomware will drop 2 files – ako-readme.txt and id.key. You can find demands and instruction on how to pay the ransom for decryption key in the text file.

The content of the ako-readme.txt:

Your network have been locked.

All your files, documents, photos, databases and other important data are encrypted and have the extension: ******

Backups and shadow copies also encrypted or removed. Any third-party software may damage encrypted data but not recover.
From this moment, it will be impossible to use files until they are decrypted.

The only method of recovering files is to purchase an unique private key.
Only we can give you this key and only we can recovery your files.

We strongly recommend not to comply with their requirements because there are no guarantees that you will obtain your files when the transaction happens. On the contrary, there is a high risk of being deceived and simply left with nothing. Of course, they claim the opposite, that it is supposedly not in their interests to trick you. Think for yourself, why should they send you the key, if they have already received a ransom from you? The only reliable way to solve the problem is to remove Ako ransomware from the system using appropriate software in order to stop the malicious actions of the virus and then restore your data from the backup.

At the last stage of the infection stage, this ransomware may delete all shadow volumes on your computer. After that, you will not be able to carry out the standard procedure for recovering your encrypted data using these shadow volumes. There are two solutions to remove Ako Ransomware and decrypt your files. The first is to use an automated removal tool. This method is suitable even for inexperienced users since the removal tool can delete all instances of the virus in just a few clicks. The second is to use the Manual Removal Guide. This is a more complex way that requires special computer skills.
