What is JobCrypter
JobCrypter is a threat that belongs to the groups of ransomware. This virus targets French-speaking part of the world. JobCrypter is designed to affect files on the infected system and encrypt them demanding payment for the restoration. JobCrypter originates in France, however it has already spread around the world. JobCrypter works in the similar way with other ransomware: it detects the files with most popular extensions and encrypts them adding .locked or .css extension, after which the malware creates a text file. For files retrieval the cyber criminals demand about 300 Euro and offer to decrypt one file for providing guarantees. How JobCrypter infected your PC
JobCrypter is distributed via the methods that are commonly used for spreading this type of malware. More often it travels the Internet with the help of P2P networks. 1. Start your computer in Safe Mode with networking. To do that, restart your computer, before your system starts hit F8 several times. Although, latest versions of JobCrypter remove system restore files, this method may help you to partially restore your files. Give it a try and use standard System Restore to revive your data.
- Initiate the search for ‘system restore‘
- Click on the result
- Choose the date before the infection appearance
- Follow the on-screen instructions
Roll the files back to the previous version
Previous versions can be copies of files and folders created by Windows Backup (if it is active) or copies of files and folders created by System Restore. You can use this feature to restore files and folders that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged (in our case – JobCrypter by JobCrypter). This feature is available in Windows 7 and later versions.
- Right-click the file and choose Properties
- Open the Previous Version tab
- Select the latest version and click Copy
